Gallery Idol- Round 2

Yep! That means I made it to Round 2! Thank you SO much for all the votes last week! The emails that I got were amazing too!  I appreciated each one and all of the support!  Thank you, Thank you!!

On to Round 2!  This weeks challenge is Die Cuts! Well....I said to myself...I use die cuts all the time...this can't be so bad!  So, I pulled out my die folders and stared at them.  For quite sometime.  Then I made several cards and stared at them.  So many dies...So little time!  :)

After some time of thinking and staring, this is the card I picked to share with you....keep reading so you can see the fun little twist with one of the elements on my card!

IMG_1695_edited-1

I used several dies for this card!  The first one is the Rolled Flower die from MFT!  I love this die and if you follow my blog you know how much I love it!  I do use it quite a bit!  This die matched up with a quilling tool, makes for perfect rolled flowers every time!

IMG_1698_edited-1

The next die I used is the PTI Turning A New Leaf Die!  Another LOVE!  I cut out 2 leaf sets and ran them through with the wood grain impression plate for some added texture!  I used the first set to attach the rolled flowers to and then I cut the 2nd set apart and tucked leaves into the bottom layers of the flowers!  That gave the little bunch of flowers some dimension for sure!  Using a stylus, I curled each leaf just for more dimension!

The last die I used is PTI's Tag Sale #3 die!  This is where my little twist comes in...a hidden message!  Keep scrolling and I have a little picture tutorial on how I did it!  Super easy!

IMG_1705_edited-1

You just open the little flap and inside is the rest of the sentiment!

Here is a quick tutorial on how I made the tag...

round 2 steps

1. All you need is a tag die, a folded piece of card stock and some tape.

2. Using removable tape, adhere the folded side of the card stock, just inside the edge of the die.

3. Run the die and paper through your the die cut machine.  Here you have your bi-fold tag.

4.  I used 3M Dual Locks for my tag closure.

5.  Take 2 dual locks and put them together as though they would be when closed.

6. Adhere them to one side of the inside of the tag.

7.  Press the other side of the tag down on top of the dual locks.

8.  Now the dual locks are perfectly lined up!  You an also use Velcro dots for this type of project too!

I attached the tag, after it was completed, to the front of my card using ATG!  The little bow is actually stuck down from the adhesive of the dual locks, through the hole in the tag!

So that is it for today!  I so appreciate your coming by here!  If you wouldn't mind stopping in HERE and casting a vote, I would appreciate it SO much! Gallery Idol-Round 1

If you haven't heard me screaming with excitement, than you may not know that I made it to the first round of Gallery Idol!  And just in case you don't know what I am hollering about, Paper Crafts magazine is hosting a contest called Gallery Idol!  There were around 1600 "Congratulations" cards entered in the "Open Auditions" Round and one of my 8 entries was chosen for the Top 20!  I am over the moon excited about being chosen to go on to Round 1!  I know several of these ladies from blog land and a couple DT's that I am on!  They are ALL amazingly talented, creative and just super sweet people!  That being said....I already feel like I won...just being in their company!

SO, now that we are on to Round 1, we have been given a new category to create in..."DIY Embellishments"!  I love making my own embellishments, from buttons, to flowers to any fun little creation to add to a card!  One of my most favorite though, is flowers!  So I am here today with my  Round 1 card and a little tutorial on how I made my flowers!  I hope you enjoy!

First off....my card....

IMG_1608_edited-2

The Hawaiian Shores background is impressed with PTI's Cane Print IP!  I layered in with some PTI True Black Satin Polka Dot ribbon!  That adorable little die cut is from MFT and the sentiment is from Verve's Bloom and Grow!  I added my DIY embellishments last!  I love these flowers and have made them several times in the past!  They are super easy!  Keep reading to check out a little DIY how-to!

IMG_1607_edited-1

Here is a picture tutorial on how I made my own flower embellishments!

Untitled-1

1. Cut several size of flowers using Flower punches, die cuts or, what I used here...my Cricut.

2. Find a foam cushion (I used the foam that brads come in) or a mouse pad and a large round stylus of some sort.  I found that for larger flowers, the end of this craft knife works the best for me!

3. Place the flower on the foam and then press down using small circles until the petals have a rounded out shape.

4.  Here is a picture of 3 sizes rounded out

5.  Using Glue Dots, adhere all 3 flowers together.

6. And one more quick pick of all my flowers finished!

In this next picture, you can see how I completed the flowers!

IMG_1591_edited-1

I added buttons and scrappers floss for the centers of the big flowers and pearls to the smaller flowers!

Here is my DIY Embellishments in a little package...

IMG_1596_edited-1

And a close of up my "DIY packaging"!  :)

finished

So that is it for the first round!  I would be HONORED of you would stop by the Gallery Idol site and cast a vote for me!  I would love to make it to Round 2 but I have to say again, in all honesty, making Top 20 feels pretty good!!

Thank you again to everyone that took the time to tweet, comment on Facebook and send me emails!  Those kind words have meant so much! This has been so much fun already!

Have a great day and I hope to see you again soon!
