So I told you all about the Coral. Here is more of that....
Can I just say how fabulous Bountiful Banners is from PTI? I know I sound like a broken record but again....the font...is fabulous! I haven't use the banners yet but I need to! And the fun little shapes included are just too cute! So for this card, I made a Berry Sorbet base and then added in the white top layer with foam tape. For the stripes...yes more of those...I used a black pen and a ruler. I took my Creative Memories circle cutters (from way back) and cut 2 different size chunks out of the card front.

And I am getting chickens. (How do you segue card making into raising chickens?) Do any of you have any? My husband was raised on a farm and always had chores and is, in turn, a very hard worker with a great work ethic. Now, I am not saying chickens will be similar to that experience for my kids, but I want them to have a chore. Something to be responsible to and for. We live in the country and have plenty of space. I have been on a clean eating kick now since January (we love eggs and chicken) and so I thought it would be something fun to add in to our daily routine. Here is the coop I think we need to have...
Alright, I am off to bed. Hope you all have a fabulous Sunday!

(I found this picture on Pinterest but it didn't have a working link. Not sure where it came from.)
....but my husbands thinks I am nuts. Hey...its cute right? :)
So any suggestions or advice would be helpful. :) I'll let you know how it goes! Alright, I am off to bed. Hope you all have a fabulous Sunday!
First of all - you are so gifted with an eye for design. This card is over-the-top gorgeous. Second - love that chicken house. But if you want suggestions, contact Anna Wight. She and Alan raise chickens.
ReplyDeleteYour card is gorgeous, Laurie!
ReplyDeleteBut, you've distracted me with chickens! I think you definitely need that coop, and I'm going to pin it to show my husband just what type of chicken coop I want too! ;-) I have no advice for you, but I second Susie's suggestion regarding Anna - she has all sorts of interesting chicken info (and cute chickens) on her blog.
Awesome card Laurie!! Loving the colour combo and the use of Bountiful Banners - I've not had a chance to play with mine yet!! And I totally misread your post at first - I thought you were saying you wanted the chickens to have a responsibility rather than the children!! lol oh dear, maybe I need more sleep! The coop is super-cute though!
ReplyDeleteThis card is so beautiful! Love the layout!
ReplyDeleteI don't know too much about chickens but I know cute when I see it and that coop is the cutest thing ever!
We just got our first 6 baby chicks 2 weeks ago. They are in a brooder in our entry. This will be our first chicken experience but it seems like a good idea and so far we have really enjoyed our chicks!
ReplyDeleteah, berry sorbet....don't get me started on how wonderful that colour is. It's a neutral in my books! LOL LOVE the cut out circles! I don't know much about eggs and chickens except that I love to eat them but I do know you HAVE to get that chicken coop if only for the incentive of wanting to keep it clean and have something pretty to look at. I think the chickens will produce tastier eggs if they had a house like that! lol Give the dh 2 choices, he can build one exactly like it or you can buy one! LOL People like choices {wink!}
ReplyDeleteAwesome card, so clean and elegant.
ReplyDeleteThose chickens will have the best house in town! I love the colors, so pretty!!!
Laurie
SUPER DUPER card Laurie, love the cut outs! Who wouldn't want a chicken coop like this complete with a white picket fence....wowzers!! I think they would lay lots of beautiful and tasty eggs if they lived here ;)
ReplyDeleteFabulous card, and fabulous chicken coop! All aqua mist and berry sorbet :o) Hubby should love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat card - love the off set partial circles. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought the coop was girls play house LOL! That is one swanky chicken coop! Diva Chickens indeed. Love the colour combo and it sure is purdy :) Let us know if you "win" ;)
What makes us unique in the world is our creative side sooo go for the Chicken coop.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool, modern card. I love the color combo and the stripes! And I can't wait to see how chic your coop turns out to be....I might want to live there if it looks like that one!
ReplyDeleteYou NEED this chicken coop! Simply adorable! :)
ReplyDeletethis is the coop i'd pick! i'd like to get some chickens too, would be a great way to show the kids responsibility...if i wasn't so dang lazy
ReplyDeleteI had chickens growing up! I liked the banty or bantam chickens the best. They had "fuzzy" feet :)
ReplyDeleteFirst of all: Berry Sorbet rocks my socks!! Everything about this card does, I'm pinning right away :) And chickens?? Yes, please!! A long time dream of ours as well, will be surely getting some as soon as we get a place to live with a bigger backyard. They're adorable pets and they give eggs... need we more?? :D
ReplyDeleteGreat card! Thanks for a new word [I had to look up segue] - and does that chicken coop ever look like your style - clean and fabulous :) I have no idea about chickens - good luck with that. Fresh eggs sounds quite awesome though.
ReplyDeleteYour latest incarnation of coral and stripes is the BOMB, Laurie!!
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't already have a cool space, I'd say your husband is right, but only because you would need a cute little house for YOU first, chickens second.
I applaud your lifestyle choices and your desire to develop work ethic in your kids. Mwah!!
What a very cool card design. I have those same circle cutters from Creative Memories--good think I never throw anything away! And, your chicken coop looks very fun. I say go for it, but be prepared to take care of the chickens yourself.
ReplyDeleteStripes=awesome!!! We need to continue using them!!! This is an awesome trendy card Laurie!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for chickens.......we are NOT get chickens but my neighbor just went this morning to begin building their chicken coop! They have 2 little boys and they can't wait! Now remember where I live? We are considered county but seriously! We have close neighbors but we dont live in the country! This should be interesting!!!
I love the simplicity and beauty of your cards! My husband wants to get egg chickens too but I told him not until he builds a proper coop. I love that coop! I don't think ours will look that pretty though. ;-). We had meat chickens last year. Had twelve but two died. My husband built a chicken tractor and moved it about the yard every couple of days. My son enjoyed seeing the chickens. They were awfully cute when they were little. Our meat chicken averaged about 6-7lbs and are absolutely delicious! We only have two left in the freezer. :-(. My husband reads a magazine called Mother Earth News (its online too). Also he recommends one online called Backyard Chickens. Well, I hope you have fun with them! :-)
ReplyDeleteFabulous card! And thumbs up on the chicken coop as well... must be sycronicity because on my computer monitor your berry sorbet cardstock matches the shutters on the coop! Meant to be. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteLOL Oh my goodness Miss. Laurie you had me laughing out loud! That is the CUTEST chicken coup I've ever seen :) My vote is yes, just tell your DH the aura that this chicken coup gives will make your chickens very happy! Happy Chicken = more eggs right?
ReplyDeleteLove your card too :)
Yes, more coral and stripes! We have chickens. My hubby cares for them mostly, although I do the egg collecting. I don't have much advice. I guess I would make sure that the kids spend some time with them, as chicks, so they are more friendly.
ReplyDeleteYour card is delish!!!
ReplyDeleteChickens, I'd get them just for that coop:)
Laurie, Amazing card! Love the design and colors! WOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for chickens, that coop is too stinkin' cool. We have about 20 chickens right now. They are quite easy and the fresh eggs are THE BEST!!!! We have 4 kids that help out with the chickens, cleaning the coop, feeding, watering, collecting eggs, etc.... It is a great learning experience for them too. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me.

I know nothing about chickens (I'd totally live in that darling coop, though), but I know this card makes my heart go pitter patter!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card! Love how the color pops!
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about chicken coops ... city girl here all the way! Have fun!
Gorgeous card, Laurie!
ReplyDeleteAnd that coop is beautiful! Okay, I could be persuaded to have chickens if we had a coop that pretty...
Awesome graphic card! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAs always, your card is the perfect combination of simplicity and stunningness (new word, right there!)! As for the chickens, go for it, they are sooooo easy (we have 21 hens and one rooster), but although that is the cutest coup I've ever seen, chickens are dirty and would only mess it up super quick. Chickens are good for teaching responsibility to kids, too. My 7 year old goes out and gets the eggs everyday and makes sure they have food. Like I said, really easy: plenty of food and clean water and they are good to go.
