PTI April Blog Hop

It's PTI Blog Hop time again! Yay!

This month Nichole gave us a gorgeous inspiration picture.  I am guessing we will be seeing a LOT of Rosie Posie today, don't you?  ;)
Here is my card, inspired by this picture...

IMG_6648_edited-1

I used the Quatrefoil die for a little masked background.   Then I added a mat stack and some Rosie Posie.  I finished it off with a little Copic detail.  The sentiment is from Communique Sentiments.  Love that set too!

IMG_6652_edited-1

So glad you could come by today!  I can't wait to hop around and see what everyone has today! If you want to see all the cards on today's hop, go check out Nichole's blog for a full list!

Happy Birthday, Michele!

Today we are celebrating a special lady!  My friend, Michele!  I was thrilled to be asked to join in this hop, sending her birthday wishes!

Here is my card...

IMG_6611_edited-2

I used lots of dies here.  The new trees from PTI, (along with the sunshine impression plate for the texture on the tree top) the fence from Clear and Simple and the grass from MFT.  I added in my own clouds...I cut these from fun foam and have them attached to a clear block at all times just for an occasion like this!

Michele, I hope your day is a happy one!  I am so lucky to have you met you and call you a friend!  I love that you are no farther away than a text!  :)  I hope you are enjoying that birthday present!  Can't wait to come out and go cruising!  Soon!!  Happy birthday girl!! Love ya!

Here is a list of the girls with birthday wishes for Michele today...

Laurie-that's me!

Thanks to everyone for coming by today!  Stop over to Michele's blog and leave her some birthday love!

Layers...yes I said it...

...Scroll down for this weeks Retro Sketches Challenge...

After my last post, talking about trying to add more to a card front, I thought I'd give it another shot.  This time I used PTI's new Strawberry Patch stamp set.  LOVE.  ;)

Here is my card...with a few more layers....

IMG_6590_edited-1

I stamped the background in Dark Chocolate and then distressed the edges with TH Tea Dye.  You can't see it in my picture but the red Mat Stack is stamped with the Envelope background stamp from HA.  I colored those strawberries after cutting them out with the dies...and then couldn't do it.  I had to cut them out.  Yes by hand Jen.  Sorry!  (Jen is not a fan of fussy cutting!)

I also realized after doing this, that my CAS cards are much easier for me.  I started this yesterday morning. And then spend lots of timing staring at it....wondering if I put things in the right place...or too many things....or not enough.  Anyway, I came inside for a bit and now I better get back out there.  Rylee just came in covered in mud.  I was only gone for 5 minutes.  Agh!!

Retro Sketches #8

Happy Saturday!  It's time for another installment of Retro Sketches!  This week our sketch is from an adorable card from Jackie!  You can see her original card HERE.

Here is my card for this week...

IMG_6527_edited-1

I loved the little tags in the sketch but I thought I would change it up a little bit and use this Surf Board stamp from DeNami.  I added a circle piece of cardstock and then popped the surf boards up right on top.  This "Sending you sunshine" sentiment, also fron DeNami, works perfect for the summery feel.

Here is this weeks sketch...

I hope you can play along with us this week!  I love looking through the gallery these last few weeks!  There have been some AMAZING cards!  This is such a fun hobby, isn't it?  So go get crafty and link up your card!

Today is going to be a relaxing day around our house.  The weather is amazing....around 73 I think?  I am thinking I will be outside quite a bit.  I am thinking about starting a garden.  We always had one growing up and I think it would be good for the kids...and me...for fresh salsa!  :)   I have been pondering life and all the highs and lows this week.  Especially after reading THIS post.  (Kelley and I are only 2 weeks apart in age!)  Really wanting to focus more on my kids and doing more things with and for them.  Time is flying by so fast and I, for some reason, am having a hard time with  this birthday...35.  I will be 35 in a little over a week.  That is 5 years from 40.  I can't wrap my brain around this because it keeps telling me I am still 18....my body says otherwise.  Anyway, thanks for listening to my thoughts.  Off to spend some a fun day with my kiddos!

Thanks for stopping today!

Not my usual...

So I was checking out the PTI forum today and I saw where Melissa Phillips had issued a little challenge.  Here it is in her words..

My challenge for you this week is simple...well, kind of. I challenge you (and me) to try a different style as you create your card. SO, if you're like me and usually tend to go the shabby, layered, look...try creating the opposite of that and go with clean and simple, graphic and fun, etc. Just try a different style and if you feel like it, try one card in your usual style and another using the same elements in a new to you style.

Here is a quick recipe:
Create a card using the following:
1. A new to you style.
2. A cupcake or something sweet (cherries, pie, cake, candy, etc.).
3. Buttons.
4. A background stamp.

So I thought why not!  I am usually a CAS kinda girl but I like to think outta the box now and then!  This is probably not a new-to-me style, but one that intimidates me for sure!
Here is my card...

IMG_6504

I pulled out my Tim Holtz inks and did a little distressing.  Which is very hard for me to do.  I even added some trim and Copic altered seam binding.  I used PTI's Sheet Music for my background stamp and the of course, buttons for cherries!  It has been awhile since I used buttons like this!

IMG_6510

As I look at this card, I realize that it may be a tiny bit vintage but it still looks kinda CAS maybe.  I tried to add more and tuck some things here and there but my brain wouldn't let me.  I am going to go back to my table now and try again.  I. must. add. layers.  :)

Thanks for coming by today!  Hope your week is off to a good start!

A card and the Pioneer Woman...

Stopping in today with a fun little CSS card.  This little cow image was one of my favorites from this new Clear and Simple release.  This is my kinda image to color for sure!  Super easy!  :)

IMG_5712_edited-1

The sentiment, cow and moon are all from Sweet Dreams.  That fabulous background stamp is from Circles Plus.    This set is a great deal because you get 7 background stamps all for $24.  I love this set!

So, did I tell you I met the Pioneer Woman the other day?  I did.  It was pretty cool.  She had a book signing in Wichita and me a a bunch of friends went down to get our new cookbooks signed.  I met Cowboy Josh and Marlboro Man too!  In fact here is his signature....

Yes I had to ask him to sign this page...from her first cookbook!  He didn't even blush!  He said he had signed it before!  LOL.

I actually met Ree in the bathroom.  We were getting ready to leave because our tickets numbers were in the 900's.  It was already 9:30pm and they were only on 400. (We figured at this rate we would have been there till about 12am and then we had an hour drive home.) We decided to go home.  I told the girls I needed to use the restroom before we left and guess who was in there?  Ree.  I was sorta star struck, which I totally assumed that I wouldn't be...but I was.  I asked her to take a picture with me but the picture of me I hate.  I look really excited and kinda dorky and overly excited...not totally loving the idea of sharing this photo....but I MET P-DUB in the bathroom!  ;)

My friends followed shorty there after and she offered to sign our books right there in the bathroom!  So I have both signatures in my new cookbook!   Anyway, it was a great evening and a fun story.

I am off to get something done.  Not sure what.  But there is always lots right?  Hope you all have a great day!  Thanks for stopping!

hello...

I am happy to be here today with a card for no reason other than....it's just a card.  No challenge attached or anything!  I feel like life has been so insane the last few months, that I rarely get to sit down "just because".  So I made this card the other day and wanted to share.  I have seen so many people doing this little coloring technique with this stamp set and I loved it so much I had to try it too!  So thanks blog friends, for the inspiration!  Here is my card...

hello

The blue centers are much softer looking in real life.  I love the little pop it gives the image though.  I pulled out my text background too. There are lots of sets I really need to be dusting off!

So we survived the tornado's last night.  There were 90 tornado's in Kansas last night.  It was CRAZY!!  We pretty much had the news on all day waiting to hear that we needed to get in the basement.  And all day we saw that the storms were on either side of us.  I am so thankful today that we were safe and am praying for all of those who were injured,  lost homes or had damaged property of any kind!  We really take for granted, so many things in our lives and I praise God for the safety of my friends and family!

I hope you all have a blessed Sunday! Thanks for stopping in!

Everything you see here is from Clear and Simple.  I used the butterflies from the Playroom background set.  Then on top of that, I used the Diamond Grid stamp.  I love this look!  I distressed it a little with the same color ink and a sponge.  I added a little pinking shear border, a banner die for the sentiment and one of the heart dies for the butterfly!

I went with the overall color scheme.  I love the white's and brown's in the photo.  I realized I was just here recently with a giraffe party and here I am again with another giraffe die...I guess you can tell I like this little guy!  :)  Another new favorite is the Gingham background stamp.  LOVE the clean image it makes!

I can't wait to see what the rest of the DT girls come up with!  Here is a list so you can visit their blogs too...
