Not my usual...

So I was checking out the PTI forum today and I saw where Melissa Phillips had issued a little challenge.  Here it is in her words..

My challenge for you this week is simple...well, kind of. I challenge you (and me) to try a different style as you create your card. SO, if you're like me and usually tend to go the shabby, layered, look...try creating the opposite of that and go with clean and simple, graphic and fun, etc. Just try a different style and if you feel like it, try one card in your usual style and another using the same elements in a new to you style.

Here is a quick recipe:
Create a card using the following:
1. A new to you style.
2. A cupcake or something sweet (cherries, pie, cake, candy, etc.).
3. Buttons.
4. A background stamp.

So I thought why not!  I am usually a CAS kinda girl but I like to think outta the box now and then!  This is probably not a new-to-me style, but one that intimidates me for sure!
Here is my card...

I pulled out my Tim Holtz inks and did a little distressing.  Which is very hard for me to do.  I even added some trim and Copic altered seam binding.  I used PTI's Sheet Music for my background stamp and the of course, buttons for cherries!  It has been awhile since I used buttons like this!

As I look at this card, I realize that it may be a tiny bit vintage but it still looks kinda CAS maybe.  I tried to add more and tuck some things here and there but my brain wouldn't let me.  I am going to go back to my table now and try again.  I. must. add. layers.  :)

Thanks for coming by today!  Hope your week is off to a good start!

  8. This is perfect, Laurie! I didn't see the challenge over at the forums, but I was daring and tried making a holiday tag that wasn't CAS for the last PC call. I had some dust all over my pants from sanding and it sure was fun trying something totally new. Your seam binding and distressing is really great. Can't wait to see what else you create!

  9. As far as I'm concerned you can turn your hand to any style and what's more, I'd love it!!

  11. It's a beautiful card, Laurie but I had to chuckle at your "must.add.layers" comment. That's exactly what I think every time I try to make a card. Like you, I'm normally a CAS gal but I so want to be Melissa or Betsy so I push myself and tell myself layers, layers, layers. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm right there with ya, sister. :)

  14. I know just what you mean! The card turned out adorable, a little simple, and just the right amount of shabby. Something right in between is a great start for pushing outside your usual style!

  23. LOVE it! I used the same cherry stamp yesterday. Makes me realize I distress ink almost everything... and layer... and embellish... I guess CAS is my "it's-a-stretch" style! :)
